Our Story

From Curry Ono to Kamome

Our restaurant was established in 2011 as Curry Ono, Japanese Kitchen in Brixton,  one of the most multi-cultural area in London.  We initially specialised in Japanese curry, which is milder than the Indian variety from which it originates.   ‎Curry was first introduced to Japan by the British navy in the 19th century and is now a popular staple.
In 2013, Japanese cuisine was recognised by UNESCO ‎for its contribution to world heritage, with its distinctive cooking style, use of natural and healthy ingredients.   In response, we are delighted to have widened our menu so there is now a range of dishes to please every palate.

We offer an authentic taste of Japan without resorting to artificial flavour enhancers, such as MSG, with many of our dishes catering for vegetarians,  vegans or  those who require a gluten-free diet. Our aim is to create a relaxed atmosphere where our customers have the opportunity to enjoy delicious, home-style, Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices.
